150 Days of Halloween: The Lost Boys

This will likely be much shorter then Let Me In, as it does not earn my ire in anyway, I mean come on, its The Lost Boys.

The Lost Boys is a delightfully campy 80's horror comedy about Vampires. Also it stars the Coreys, you know, Corey Feldman and Corey Haim? If you were alive for the 80's and early 90's then these two drag a whole lot of nostalgia onto the screen along with them. So does a young and super hammy Kiefer Sutherland who must be hungry, because he eats the scenery anytime hes on screen.

"Even the title is delicious!"
This isn't high cinema or anything, its about Vampires on a strip of beach town who are thwarted by a few kids with holy water filled squirt guns. It only wants to entertain you, and it does that job just fine. Everyone acts with the over the top aplomb of 80's cinema, everyone has ridiculous hair and even more absurd wardrobes, its a wonderful time machine.

The plot is filled with tiny holes regarding the rules of vampires, only just managing to hold water because everyone keeps tight lipped about what those rules are. You can't be seen in a mirror, unless you have yet to make your first kill, then you are only semi-transparent. Unless of course you were invited into the house, then you have a reflection! The movie doesn't let these things slow it down, even the characters will momentarily seem confused about the loose nature of it all, but then a vampire explodes and no one cares anymore.

If you want to be scared, then pass over this, but if you just want a silly good time and you somehow haven't seen this before, check it out. Light some crappy off-brand cigarette, bleach your hair, and put on a leather jacket and enjoy the ride.

See, I told you it would be a short one! If you want to see what the other movies on the list are, and what I thought of the ones I have watched thus far, check'em out here.

  2. This was one of my favorite movies back in the day. Awesome fun to watch as a kid. Especially where they mix vampire culture in with comic book culture.

  3. I'm not comfortable with creep movies. I just turned down my bro's invitation to watch Scream 4 with him.

  7. Regarding remake vs original.

Their is no remake of The Lost Boys, however it did spawn two sequels almost twenty years later, both of which are to be avoided.
